ust under a year after launching his acclaimed restaurant OtoroNYC in Jamaica Estates, 24-year-old Bukharian-Israeli restaurateur Isaac Babaev is expanding with a second venture. Set to open in July 2025, Sabba (meaning “grandfather” in Hebrew) will take over the former Acquista Trattoria space at the corner of 178th Street and Union Turnpike, following the Italian eatery’s closure after 23 years in business.
Inspired by the diverse culinary heritage of Israeli grandfathers—whether from Tashkent, Morocco, or beyond—Sabba will blend flavors from across the Jewish diaspora, all cooked over charcoal for an authentic Israeli dining experience. The concept pays homage to the melting-pot traditions of immigrant families while bringing a bold, fire-kissed twist to the neighborhood.
Stay tuned for updates on Sabba’s grand opening this summer!
